PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an evaluation method, with which the regularity of gain can be easily estimated only by fiber for optical amplification.
SOLUTION : In the evaluation method of fibers for optical amplification, flatness of gain is defined as the difference between the maximum and minimum values of gain over a wavelength range of 1, 540 nm to 1, 560 nm of a fiber for optical amplification, wherein erbium (Er), a rare earth element, is added to at least a part of a core. First, the ratio of an absorption value α1, 480 is obtained at a wavelength of 1, 480 nm to the peak absorption value αpeak of the fiber for optical amplification, that is, α1, 480/αpeak, and then the flatness of gain is deduced from the ratio obtained.
