PURPOSE : To obtain a method of producing a single crystal without cracks. CONSTITUTION : A single crystal of cerium-doped gadolinium silicate is cut into a block in such a manner that a plane tilted by a proper angle to the plane parallel to the cleavage plane(100) plane) which is naturally or artificially produced on the end face of the crystal rock is cut with two pair of planes perpendicular to each other. Then the obtd. block is cut to form a pair of planes parallel to the tilted plane. No crack is produced in the processed face nearest to the cleavage plane. In the succeeding process for mirror polishing, no cleavage is produced but a smooth processed face can be obtd. By this method, such a single crystal that has a processed face near the cleavage but no crack can be obtd. from a single crystal having cleavage planes. |
