PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a light emitting device having no luminous gradient and with uniform luminance. SOLUTION : The light emitting device 150 comprises a plurality of light emitting light sources 100, and the light source 100 includes an airtight arc tube 10, a discharge medium which is sealed inside the arc tube 10 and is made mainly of a rare gas, and a first electrode 11 and a second electrode 12 for exciting the discharge medium. The first electrode 11 is arranged at one end of the arc tube 10 and the second electrode 12 is arranged at the other end of the arc tube 10. The light source 100 has a luminance gradient including a high luminance region and a low luminance region between the first electrode 11 and the second electrode 12. The plurality of light sources 100 are arranged mutually adjacent to each other, and the high luminance region of one of the adjoining light sources 100 and the low luminance region of the other light source 100 are arranged alternately so as to be opposed to each other.
