PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rubber composition for a sidewall that is earth-friendly by the increased use of non-petroleum resources preparing for the future shortage in petroleum supply, and is excellent in flex cracking resistance and in tear strength. SOLUTION : The rubber composition for sidewalls contains 20-60 pts.wt. silica to a 100 pts.wt. rubber component comprised of a 40-80 wt.% natural rubber and at least one sort of rubber of 60-20 wt.% selected from the group consisting of a butadiene rubber, a styrene-butadiene rubber and an epoxidized natural rubber, and contains, to the 100 pts.wt. silica, a 4-16 pts.wt. silane compound represented by formula; Xn-Si-Y4-n, wherein, X is an ethoxyl or methoxyl group, and Y is a phenyl or alkyl group.
