PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a biodegradable magnesium alloy.
SOLUTION : The invention relates to a magnesium alloy, a method for production thereof, and a use thereof. The magnesium alloy includes 3 to 7% of Zn, 0.001 to 0.5% of Ca, and the remainder containing impurities, which promote electrochemical potential differences and/or formation of intermetallic phases, in a total amount of no more than 0.005 of Fe, Si, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Al, Zr and P, where the alloying elements are selected from the group of rare earths having the ordinal numbers 21, 39, 57-71 and 89-103 in a total amount of no more than 0.001 wt.%.
