A first blend comprises first particles which are a metal, alloy or mixture consisting of nickel, iron and/or cobalt, second particles comprising an alloy or mixture containing aluminium, titanium, yttrium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, zirconium, hafnium and/or a rare earth element and third particles of WC. Preferably the first particles are a Ni-Cr alloy and constitute (by weight) 15-35 % of the blend, the second particles are a Ni-Al alloy and constitute 3-20 % of the blend and the WC particles constitute 50-80 % of the blend. A second blend comprises first particles of WC and second particles comprising a material selected from aluminium, titanium, yttrium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, zirconium, hafnium, a rare earth element and mixtures thereof. The second particles comprise 0.2-5 % of the blend. The blends can be deposited as overlays on a metal substrate by plasma transfer arc welding. |
