PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for simply producing spherical fine particles of basic carbonate and oxide of rare earth element useful as a raw material for sintered compact of rare earth element or sintering auxiliary for ceramic or a raw material for fluorescent substance. SOLUTION : An aqueous solution containing one or more kinds of rare earth element ions of the group consisting of Y, Nd, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu and Sc, hydrogen peroxide and urea is heated to a temp. of 80 deg.C to the boiling point of the aqueous solution to give a basic carbonate of rare earth element. One or more kinds of rare earth element ions of the group consisting of Ce, Pr, Sm and Eu besides the rare earth element are added to the aqueous solution to give a basic carbonate of rare earth element. The basic carbonate is baked to give a rare earth element oxide. |
