An oxygen excess type metal oxide characterized by being represented by the following formula (1) and at low-temperature zone, having the capability of high speed/reversible oxygen diffusion permitting the diffusion of large-amount excess oxygen at a high speed and in a reversible manner. AjBkCmDnO7+δ (1) wherein A : one or two or more members of trivalent rare earth elements and Ca, B : one or two or more members of alkaline earth metal elements, and C and D : one or two or more members of oxygen tetracoordinate elements, at least one thereof being a transition metal element, provided that j>0, k>0, that each independently, m≥0, n≥0, and that j+k+m+n = 6 and 0<δ≤1.5. |
