PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a rare earth oxysulfate by using a rare earth oxide as a starting material, wherein the cost reduction and the mass production are easily attained by a new and simple treatment operation process.
SOLUTION : An objective rare earth oxysulfate is obtained by preparing a milling product by mixing an oxide of a rare earth element or oxides of a plurality of rare earth elements and a sulfur raw material while giving a mechanical energy by using a ball mill device, and then heating the prepared milling product in air.
