PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal halide discharge lamp and a metal halide discharge lamp system lighting the same suitable for direct-current lighting with color temperature difference between electrodes within the tolerance range.
SOLUTION : The metal halide discharge lamp MHL is provided with a fire-resistant, translucent airtight vessel 1, a pair of electrodes 2A, 2B and a discharge medium with halide and rare gas sealed in without mercury substantially sealed in. If, when the lamp is lit in a single direction where a direction of current flowing in the airtight vessel does not change with time, correlated color temperature within 1/8 of a distance between the electrodes from a tip of one of the electrodes is TA(K), and a correlated color temperature within the range of 1/8 of a distance between the electrodes from a tip of the other electrode is TB(K), (provided, TA>TB), an inter-electrode correlated color temperature TA-TB is to satisfy : TA-TB≤3, 000.
