PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal halide discharge lamp without lowering of light emission efficiency, provided with a heat insulation means compensating vapor pressure of a second halide mainly acting so as to form a lamp voltage lower than that of mercury.
SOLUTION : The metal halide discharge lamp is composed of an airtight container, a pair of electrodes, a light emission tube in which a discharge medium containing rare gas is enclosed, and an outer tube housing the light emission tube, wherein, a first halide is a plurality of halides selected from a group of Na, Sc, and rare earth metal, and a second halide is one or plurality of metal halide selected from a group of Mg, Fe, Co, Cr, Zn, Ni, Mn, Al, Sb, Be, Re, Ca, Ti, Zr, and Hf.
