PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a plastic optical material which is transparent, has a characteristic to selectively absorb a specific light wavelength region and facilitates molding, cutting, polishing, etc. ŽSOLUTION : A polymer is formed by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing (a) 0.2 to 40 wt% (meth)acrylate of a rare earth metal, (b) 4 to 40 wt% monoesters of hydroxy alkyl (meth)acrylate and phthalic acid or hexahydrophthalic acid or alkane dicarboxylic acid, and (c) 30 to 90 wt% monomer copolymerizable with (a) and (b) and the optical material is formed therefrom.
