PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an inexpensive magnetic recording medium of high density wherein an underlayer and a magnetic layer are formed at room temperature and which has stably high performance and high reliability.
SOLUTION : The magnetic recording medium wherein the underlayer made of at least metal or an alloy and the granular magnetic layer made of ferromagnetic metal particles and a non-magnetic oxide are formed by a vacuum-deposition method on at least one surface of a supporting body has 1 to 100 Ω/square surface resistivity. In the manufacturing method of the magnetic recording medium, ≤1×10-4 Pa degree of vacuum and ≤7×10-5 Pa partial pressure of water are satisfied in a vacuum-deposition device, then a rare gas is introduced to a desired pressure and the underlayer and the granular magnetic layer are formed on the supporting body.
