PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an external electrode type fluorescent lamp which suppresses leakage of rare gas from the sealing parts at both ends of a glass bulb and generation of corona discharge at lighting of the lamp.
SOLUTION : The fluorescent lamp has external electrodes 102, 103 adhered at the outer circumference at both end parts of a glass bulb 101 of which both ends 101a, 101b are sealed and cross-section is flat. The thickness t of the bottom part of the sealed glass bulb 101 is 1/4 or more of the inner circumference length of the glass bulb 101, and the shorter inner diameter of the cross-section of the flat glass bulb is established at a range 1.0 mm or more and 5.0 mm or less.
