PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a new oxide having excellent luminescence property, in other words, to provide a novel luminous oxide having the kaliphilite type structure as a substance for solving the problems of sulfide illuminant or the like, poor heat resistance, chemical instability, in addition, to provide a novel afterglow illuminant oxide by activating the rare earth metal ion or transition metal ion as the luminescence center to attain hilighting illuminant from blue to yellow color, furthe by the nonstoichiometric composition.
SOLUTION : The complex oxide having the kaliophilite type structure is represented by M1M32O4 (M1 is one or more of Ca, Sr, and Ba; M3 is Si, Mg or Zn) or an oxide substituted with Eu2+ or Mn+ and an illuminant therefrom.
