简介 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a raw alloy having an optimum structure for stably obtaining high magnetic characteristics, and particularly high coercive force. SOLUTION : The raw alloy is used for forming an R-T-B-based sintered magnet (wherein R is one or more rare earth elements, T is at least one transition metal element which indispensably includes Fe and Co, and B is boron), with a method of quenching molten metal; and includes a columnar crystal having a minor axis and a major axis. When the maximum average diameter of the minor axis of the columnar crystal is represented by Dmax and the average diameter is represented by Dave, Dmax is 6 μm or smaller and Dave is in a range between 2 μm and 5.5 μm.
