PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a film which is physically and optically homogeneous, and is improved both in retardation Re in the surface and in the retardation Rth along the thickness.
SOLUTION : The method for producing a cellulose ester film comprises spreading a flowing dope containing a cellulose ester and an organic solvent over a band by the film casting method, and then a transfer process D0 of transferring a delaminated film, a grasp process A of grasping the end of the film toward the side, an extend process B of extending the film toward the side, and a relax process C of relaxing the film toward the side, wherein the Re(590) and Rth(590) satisfy expressions : 20 nm≤Re(590)≤200 nm, 70 nm≤Rth(590)≤400 nm, and 0.8≤Rth(590)/Re(590)≤6.0; and the film in the transfer process D0 is loaded with a transferring tension of in the range of 30-300 N/m.
