PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide composite metallic compound particles composed of a central part and the circumferential covering layer, in which the central part is composed of a compound of rare earth metals, the covering layer is composed of a compound of metals other than rare earths, and the standard deviation of a particle size distribution lies within 15% of the average particle diameter, and which contributes to the provision of a functional material of high quality.
SOLUTION : The composite metallic compound particles are each composed of a central part and the circumferential covering layer, and are characterized in that : (1) the central part is composed of at least one kind selected from the group consisting of the oxides, hydroxides and carbonates of rare earth metals; (2) the covering layer is composed of at least one kind selected from the group consisting of the oxides, hydroxides and carbonates of metals other than rare earths; (3) the average particle diameter of the composite metallic compound particles is 35 to 600 nm; and (4) the standard deviation in the particle distribution of the composite metallic compound particles lies within 15% of the average particle diameter.
