PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a stainless steel fiber having excellent high temperature heat resistance and also to provide a steel wire for stainless steel fiber production which has excellent machinability and from which the fiber can be produced with high productivity.
SOLUTION : The stainless steel fiber has a chemical composition containing, by mass, ≤0.10% C, 0.3 to 1.5% Si, ≤1.0% Mn, 17.0 to 26.0% Cr, ≤0.60% Ni, 2.0 to 6.0% Al, 0.5 to 1.5% Mo, 0.02 to 0.08% S, 0.05 to 0.1% rare earth elements and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. This stainless steel fiber can be obtained by cutting the steel fiber for stainless steel fiber production which has the above chemical composition and a Vickers hardness of Hv 310 or higher and is composed of a fiber structure of crystal grains with ≥5.0 aspect ratio.
