PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an easily manufacturable metal-halide lamp having high light emission efficiency, quickening rise of light flux, and causing little influence on lamp characteristics.
SOLUTION : This metal-halide lamp is provided with a translucent airtight vessel 1 having a light emitting tube portion 11, in which a discharge space 13 is formed, and sealing portions 121 and 122 formed in both ends of the light emitting tube 11, a discharge medium 14, which is enclosed in the discharge space 13 and contains at least metal halide and rare gas, and a pair of electrodes 31 and 32. One ends of the pair of electrodes 31 and 32 are sealed at sealing portions 121 and 122, and the other ends of them are arranged in the discharge space 13 facing to each other. The discharge space 13 having a substantially circular shape in a cross section perpendicular to the tube axis direction is structured so that the discharge medium 14 is accumulated between the pair of electrodes 31 and 32, and in the light emitting tube portion 11, thickness in the lower portion is thinner than that in the upper portion.
