PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a dispersing agent for gypsum, which can disperse gypsum with a small amount of water and impart sufficient flowability to a gypsum slurry with a small addition amount even for the gypsum slurry in low water/gypsum ratio, and which is free from lowering in strength development caused by setting retardancy.
SOLUTION : The dispersing agent for gypsum is a water-soluble vinyl copolymer containing a constitution unit expressed by formula 1 and a constitution unit expressed by formula 2 in an amount of ≥75 mol% in total in the total constitution unit and having a mass-average molecular weight of 3, 000-80, 000. In the formulas 1 and 2, R1 is a 2-4C alkyl group; R2, R3 are each a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; M is a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom, an alkaline earth metal atom or an organic ammonium; and n is an integer of 2-150.
