PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a heat resistant oxide having excellent heat resistance and high temperature durability, and having high activity.
SOLUTION : A precursory composition composed of zirconia, at least one coordination element selected from the group consisting of rare earth elements, alkaline-earth elements, aluminum and silicon, and at least one noble metal selected from the group consisting of platinum, rhodium and palladium is subjected to heat treatment (secondary firing) at ≥650°C, so as to obtain heat resistant oxide having an oxide crystal structure, and in which the solid solution ratio of the noble metal(s) to the oxide crystal structure is ≥50%.
