PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high output magnetic tape having excellent performance in short wave recording by using very small magnetic powder with very high coercivity having high magnetic saturation suitable to high-density recording, and provide a magnetic recording cartridge incorporating this tape.
SOLUTION : This magnetic recording cartridge incorporates a magnetic tape having a magnetic layer containing magnetic powder and a binder and formed on a non-magnetic base. The above magnetic powder contains at least an element selected from a group consisting of rare earth elements of silicon and aluminum, and has iron and nitrogen with at least a Fe16 N2 phase, and is 5-50 nm in average size and essentially spherical or elliptical.
