The amplifier circuit uses a unique waveguide for coupling pump light in or out at the multiplex side and the single channel side respectively. The inner waveguide structure of the optical phased array is doped with rare earth ions, esp. erbium. The non-absorbed portion of the pump light is used for other amplification requirements, esp. in another WDM multiplexer/demultiplexer and/or for amplification control. Two waveguides are provided on one substrate on which several phase shifters are formed. |
