PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a small loss optical isolator which can be used for a high power laser beam.
SOLUTION : A BIG thick film 15 (bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet single crystal thick film), a sapphire plate 13, and a magnet 16 are used as a Faraday rotator turning the light polarizing direction, corresponding to the magnetic field applied in the direction toward the center axis. A pair of PBSs (polarizing beam splitter) 14 is disposed so as to sandwich the Faraday rotator. The case 11 housing them is made of a material, having thermal conductivity of 200 W/(m K) or larger, and a hole 12 is provided on its side to pass the light bent by the PBS 14.
