PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth sintered magnet in which pealing strength of a protective film can be ensured for stress impartment.
SOLUTION : A rare earth sintered magnet comprises a rare earth sintered magnet body having anisotropy in surface roughness, and a protective film formed on the surface of the rare earth sintered magnet body. When a grinding mark is formed on the surface of the rare earth sintered magnet body along one predetermined direction, it can be said that the rare earth sintered magnet body has anisotropy in surface roughness. Furthermore, it can be said that the rare earth sintered magnet body has anisotropy in surface roughness when following relation is satisfied between the surface roughness Ra1 (arithmetic mean surface roughness) of the rare earth sintered magnet body in the predetermined direction and the surface roughness Ra2 in the direction intersecting the predetermined direction perpendicularly; Ra2≥1.1×Ra1.
