A metal halide lamp is provide, which includes a light emit tube (3) having a housing made of an oxide-based light-transmitting ceramic material, in which a halide of cerium as a light-emitting substance 17 and a halide of a rare earth element which can easily react with that ceramic material as compared to the halide of cerium are respectively sealed. Therefore, the reaction of the oxide-based light-transmitting ceramic material with the halide of the rare earth element is promoted, and the reaction of the oxide-based light-transmitting ceramic material with the halide of the cerium is inhibited, so that the reduction of the halide of the cerium providing light emission can be inhibited, and the change of the lamp color temperature can be reduced. As a result, the light beam maintenance rate and color temperature reduction related to lamp aging are improved, thereby providing an alumina ceramic tube metal halide lamp with high wattage type, high efficiency and long service life as a white light source color for general indoor and outdoor use. |
