PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a forming device and a forming method with which the smooth charging and forming of raw material powder are realized, and production of burrs and cracks in a compact and the variation in its thickness can be suppressed.
SOLUTION : The forming device is provided with : an upper die 1 and a lower die 2 divided in a vertical direction; left and right punches 3, 4 movable in a horizontal direction with respect to those dies; and magnetic field applying means (upper and lower coils 6, 7) of applying magnetic fields in the almost vertical direction. While applying magnetic fields in the almost vertical direction by the magnetic field applying means, rare earth magnet raw material powder 10 is pressurized and formed in the horizontal direction by the left and right punches 3, 4. When forming, demagnetization is performed to the upper die 1, and, thereafter, the rare earth magnet raw material powder 10 is charged inside the lower die 2 and is subjected to compacting.
