PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a noble gas discharge lamp lighting device in which light emission by noble gas discharge can be effectively achieved with a relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION : This noble gas discharge lamp lighting device 14 comprises : a noble gas discharge lamp 11 including a bulb 12 enveloping noble gas therein and having a phosphor film covered at the inner surface thereof and a pair of outside electrodes 13a, 13b disposed opposite to each other at the outer surface of the bulb 12 along an axial direction; a DC power source 15; switching elements 16, 19a, 19b connected to the DC power source 15; a transformer 18 connected to the pair of outside electrodes 13a, 13b on the output side thereof in such a manner as to apply a pulse voltage to the pair of outside electrodes 13a, 13b of the noble gas discharged lamp 11 by the operation of the switching elements 16, 19a, 19b; and a pulse lighting circuit 5 having control circuits 17, 20 for controlling the operation of the switching elements 16, 19a, 19b. |
