In a method for selectively extracting thorium from a rare earth light leaching residue, the present invention provides the method for selectively extracting thorium using polymer alcohol, comprising following steps of : (a) adding an acid solution to the leaching residue, adding hydrogen peroxide and the polymer alcohol as a reducing agent to form infusion liquid; and (b) adding an organic phase containing an extractant to a leaching solution to extract thorium as a solvent.
