PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high nonlinearity device with which a nonlinear phenomenon having high nonlinearity and long nonlinear working length and satisfying a phase matching condition for a long distance is highly efficiently generated.
SOLUTION : The high nonlinearity device is equipped with a high nonlinearity glass fiber 1 with a rare earth element added thereto. The high nonlinearity glass fiber 1 has a cladding which is equipped with a plurality of air holes on the periphery of a portion corresponding to a core, and is an optical fiber having a zero dispersion wavelength in the vicinity of a wavelength band, where the rare earth element is amplified. Also the high nonlinearity device is equipped with a light source 3 for excitation to output exciting light to excite the rare earth element added to the high nonlinearity glass fiber 1, and a wavelength multiple coupler 2 connected to the output side of the high nonlinearity glass fiber 1, inputting exciting light outputted from the light source 3 for excitation to the high nonlinearity glass fiber 1, and outputting light outputted from the high nonlinearity glass fiber 1.
