PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal halide lamp which has electrical characteristics almost equal to a lamp with mercury enclosed and has superior chromatic rising characteristics, with no mercury of higher environmental load essentially used, a lighting device for a metal halide lamp and an illuminating apparatus equipped with the halide lamp.
SOLUTION : The metal halide discharge lamp comprises a hermetic vessel, a pair of electrodes 2, 2, a discharge medium which is sealed in the hermetic vessel 1 by containing a first halide, a second halide and a rare gas, the first halide being a halide of at least one kind of metal selected from natrium Na, scandium Sc and a group of rare earth metals, and the second halide being a halide of one kind or a plural kinds of metals selected from a prescribed group, and which generates radiation of light entering a white chromatic range immediately after lighting.
