PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a mercury-free light source having high energy efficiency by using a quantum-splitting phosphor having high quantum efficiency.
SOLUTION : The quantum-splitting phosphor is expressed by ADF5 : Pr3+ wherein A is at least one alkaline earth metal and D is at least one group III metal. The phosphor is produced in a solid state without using dangerous HF gas. The phosphor can be used singly or in combination with other phosphors in a light source 10 and a display 310. It is excited by vacuum ultraviolet rays to increase the efficiency of the devices.
