PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To suppress generation of leak due to a crack in a sealing part in a metal halide lamp not substantially containing mercury in a discharge space.
SOLUTION : A metallic halide and rare gas and a discharge medium substantially containing no mercury are sealed in a discharge space of a translucent airtight container having an arc tube part forming a discharge space of 0.1 cc or less and a sealing part formed at ends of the arc tube part. A metal foil is sealed in the sealing part. A pair of electrodes are oppositely arranged maintaining a distance of 5 mm or less in the discharge space at an end of metal foil. The size of metallic crystal in an axial direction of an electrode surface contacting with the sealing part of the electrode is formed in 100 μm or less.
