PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a light emission device which has small color slurring and color unevenness, and high light emission efficiency, and to provide a phosphor used therefor.
SOLUTION : The light emission device is equipped with an exciting light source and the phosphor which absorbs at least part of the light emitted by the exciting light source and converts it to a different wavelength. The phosphor is a rare-earth aluminate phosphor having (a) aluminum; (b) at least one kind selected from a group of yttrium, lutetium, scandium, lanthanum, gadolinium, terbium, europium, and samarium; (c) gallium at need; and (d) a rare-earth element and has a filled part and a cavity inside, the area rate of the cavity to the total of the filled part and cavity stands at the level of 0 to 20% in a section.
