PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for generating a chlorine dioxide solution, by which the chlorine dioxide solution useful for the purpose of sterilization or deodorization and having optional concentration can be generated safely in a short time without using a mechanical apparatus and to provide a chlorine dioxide generating agent.
SOLUTION : This method for generating the chlorine dioxide solution comprises a step of mixing the chlorite of an alkali metal or an alkaline-earth metal as a principal agent for generating chlorine dioxide (hereinafter called the principal agent) with succinic acid as an activating agent (hereinafter called the activating agent) consisting of an organic acid of carboxylic acid or oxycarboxylic acid. An aqueous solution of the chlorine dioxide solution is used for the purpose of sterilization or deodorization. Succinic acid is used as the activating agent so that the chlorine dioxide solution safe against the human body and having optional concentration can efficiently be generated safely in a short time.
