PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To simplify wiring of a lighting apparatus with a mercury-free discharge lamp and to expand dimmer range without deteriorating brightness distribution at the time of dimmer control.
SOLUTION : More than one of rare gas discharge lamps 14, 15 are faced to the side face of a light guide member 13 and paralleled each other so that they have the same direction of polarity and they are electrically connected at earth side poles 14a and 15a. Voltage impression side poles 14b and 15b of the rare gas discharge lamps 14 and 15, respectively, are connected to an inverter substrate (voltage controller) 21 which controls a dimmer, by changing the number of lighting discharge lamps 14 and 15 and varying applied voltage to the lamp 14.
