In recording data on an information recording medium having a plurality of recording layers, it is possible to prevent losing compatibility with a reproduction-only information recording medium when recording is complete in the middle of the data rare and an unrecorded is generated. When user data recording is complete at X in the middle of data area of layer 1, dummy data having a lead out and user data attribute are recorded on the unrecorded area generated on a layer 2. When user data recording is complete at Y in the middle of data area of layer 0, dummy data having the lead out and user data attribute are recorded in a predetermined unrecorded area on the layer 1. Thus, by filling the unrecorded area with data, it is possible to maintain compatibility with a reproduction-only information recording medium having a plurality of recording layers. |
