FIELD : glass melting method and apparatus.
SUBSTANCE : method for producing of HCl or chlorine, or H2SO4 and silicates of alkaline metals such as Na, K, and/or alkaline-earth metals such as Ca, Mg, and/or rare-earth metals such as Ce, possibly in the form of mixed silicates consisting of at least two of said elements, includes processing in reactor of silica and halogenides or sulfates used as source of ions of said metals or rare-earth metals; providing access of heat needed for processing at least partly through usage of one or more submersion burners, whereto substances for supporting combustion process are supplied, said substances being air, oxygen-enriched air, or oxygen, and fuel such as natural gas, petroleum residue or hydrogen. Combustion caused by submersion plate (plates) provides at least partly mixing of reactants. Processing results in producing of H2SO4 or halogenated derivatives, possibly such as chlorinated products, which may be utilized in the form of HCl or Cl2. Reactor is furnished with means for utilization or neutralization of HCl or Cl2 wastes or H2SO4 type wastes. Apparatus for effectuating said method is described.
