PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a low-cost and high-quality optical fiber transmission system which reliably suppresses the cumulative ASE noise produced in many cascade-connected optical fiber amplifiers.
SOLUTION : The optical fiber transmission system having a plurality of optical fiber amplifiers 12 cascade-connected in N stages for amplifying a signal light comprises the plurality of optical fiber amplifiers 12 constituted with rare earth-added optical fibers, an optical source 11 for radiating intensity-modulated signal lights, an optical divider 14 for branching the signal light in a plurality of routes at one or a plurality of specified positions on N stages of transmission lines, an optical filter 15 having such characteristics that it passes the wavelength of the signal light but peak wavelengths of noise components based on natural radiant lights produced in each optical fiber amplifier are outside its pass band, and an optical receiver 16 for receiving the signal light outputted from the N-th stage optical fiber amplifier 12. The optical filter 15 is inserted at the output of an M-th stage optical fiber amplifier 12 (M is an integer N-3 or greater and N-1 or less). |
