PURPOSE : To uniformize the distribution of nitrogen content and enhance magnetic characteristics by bringing a compd. represented by a specified general formula into contact with gas contg. ammonia or nitrogen in a rotary kiln when the compd. is nitrided to obtain rare earth element-iron nitride. CONSTITUTION : A compd. represented by a general formula Rx-(Fey-M100-x)100-x is nitrided. In the formula, R is one or more among Y and rare earth elements (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu), M is one or more among B, Ti, Mo, Cr and Co, (x) is 5-25 atomic % and (y) is 50-100 atomic %. In this method, powder of the compd. is brought into contact with gas contg. ammonia or nitrogen in a rotary kiln. |
