PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide means for exhaust-gas purification, in which degradation of catalytic activity is resolved, the exhaust-gas purification is enhanced from engine-startup time, and the catalytic activity is maintained for a long period of time in the purification method for exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine.
SOLUTION : In the purification method, the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine is passed through the catalyst including catalyst-particle-carrying carrier. At the time when the engine is to be stopped, a reducing atmosphere is produced for the catalyst simultaneously or just after the engine shutdown. In the case of starting the engine, an oxidizing atmosphere is produced for the catalyst just before an engine start to pass the exhaust gas through the catalyst by starting the engine. In this method, it is preferable to employ a catalyst containing a rare earth element, particularly cerium at 10-85 wt.%. |
