PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a means for increasing the intensity of the photo luminescence with respect to rare earth element ions added into a core base metal as an amplification medium, and for obtaining higher optical amplification rate and a wide amplification band width in a plane optical waveguide that can be used for an optical amplifier. SOLUTION : The plane optical waveguide for the optical amplifier is provided with a clad on a substrate and a core arranged in the clad. The core uses a laminated core wherein two or more kinds of layers made of rare earth element added oxides that rare earth element ions are added in forms of oxides are stuck in oxide base materials with compositions different from each other, with at least a more effective refractive index than that of the clad. |
