PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an automobile exhaust system component satisfying resistance to initial rust at a low cost as far as possible in an automobile exhaust system component using steel of the level of SUS409L as the stock.
SOLUTION : In the automobile exhaust system component formed of steel comprising, by mass, 10.0 to 13.5% Cr as the stock, a film composed of the silicate of an alkali metal or an alkaline-earth metal is formed on the surface of the component exposed to the external environment. The film comprises one or more kinds selected from sodium silicate, potassium silicate and calcium silicate, or further comprises a corrosion product of basic zinc carbonate, zinc oxide, zinc hydroxide or metal zinc.
