PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a durable high-speed cutting tool possessing excellent abrasion resistance under high-speed cutting conditions of not less than 250 m/min. SOLUTION : This cutting tool is made of material containing 60-99 wt.% of Al2 O3 , 0.2-5 wt.% of Ti oxide and at least 0.3-0.35 wt.% of one in total selected from a group of rare earth elements, Zr, Hf, Mo, W and Si, and 0.1-3 wt.% of Mg oxide in, wherein an average grain size of an alumina crystal grain is not more than 10 μm in a contact surface with a material to be cut, and oxide grains containing Mg or Ti with an average grain size of not more than 0.3 μm are dispersed over the depth of not less than 0.01 mm from the contact surface. Accordingly, the abrasion resistance and durability of the cutting tool are improved. |
