PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing lower olefins such as ethylene or propylene in a good yield over a long time by catalytically cracking a hydrocarbon material using a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst carrying rare earth elements.
SOLUTION : In the method for producing lower olefins by catalytically cracking the ≥2C hydrocarbon material in a fixed bed reactor filled with the catalyst, the crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite containing rare earthes and having the dimension of ≥14 mesh (1.2 mm) is used as the catalyst, and the pressure loss of a catalyst layer in the reactor is controlled to be ≤0.02 MPa.
