The system discriminates between different cardiac events and is able to adjust timing accordingly. The cardiac implant comprises a device for detection of spontaneous auricular and ventricular events, and a device for detection of an atrial-ventricular block, as well as elements for ventricular and auricular stimulation. The ventricular stimulation is applied on detection of an atrial-ventricular block (BAV) after the passage of a programmed atrial-ventricular delay following triggering by an auricular event. The system further includes devices for discriminating the paroxystic or chronic character of BAV. A further component (26) is able, in the case of a recognized chronic BAV, to deactivate the automatic switching mode, to switch into DDD mode and to re-program the atrial-ventricular delay to a shorter value. |
