PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To extend the cycle life of an alkaline storage battery using a hydrogen storage alloy containing at least a rare earth element, magnesium, nickel and aluminum for a negative electrode, by inhibiting the hydrogen storage alloy used in the negative electrode from being pulverized when discharge and charge are repeated, and from being oxidized due to a reaction with an alkaline electrolytic solution.
SOLUTION : The hydrogen storage alloy used in the negative electrode of the alkaline storage battery provided with a positive electrode 1, the negative electrode 2 using the hydrogen storage alloy and the alkaline electrolytic solution comprises at least rare earth element, magnesium, nickel and aluminum, wherein the rare earth elements include at least lanthanum, and the amount of lanthanum exceeds 50 atomic% of the total rare earth elements. |
