PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas which can be prepaid advantageously in cost and an keep high catalytic activity even after being exposed under high temperature condition and can effectively act at a relatively low temperature. SOLUTION : In a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas wherein a coating layer is formed on a heat-resistant inorganic oxide, the coating layer comprises alumina, Pd carried on a part or the whole of the alumina, a Ce-Zr composite oxide of the general formula Ce1-(x+y)ZrxMyO2-z (wherein M is at least one element among alkali earth metals and rare earth elements (wherein Ce and Zr are excluded) and 0.30<=Ce<=0.80, 0.25<=Zr<=0.70 and 0<=M<=0.20) and at least one of Pt and Rh carried on a part or the whole of the Ce-Zr composite oxide and as the oxides containing Zr, on oxide is incorporated except the above general formula. |
