PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a means for suppressing clustering of rare earth element ions, and realizing a higher optical amplification rate and a wide amplification band width in increasing an additive rate of the rare earth element ions added into a core base metal as an amplification medium in a plane optical waveguide that can be used for an optical amplifier.
SOLUTION : In the optical waveguide in this form, composition elements of a waveguide core are set to be a rare earth element and elements other than the base metal. At least one element among Sc, Y and La, which belong to a group IIIA is added, and the elements other than the group IIIA are not added. |
